Facebook is called a social network, but in my opinion, it's anti-social.
People, especially teens, use it to avoid real-life encounters and conversations. I mean, how are you supposed to talk to someone without using those handy little emoticons so they know how you're feeling? And why talk to a friend out in public? The person you're gossiping about might hear you!
When you sign up for Facebook, you run the risk of using the internet as a tool to become something you're not. It just really ticks me off when you see little kids as young as eight on Facebook posing as thirteen-year-olds. I even know a girl who pretends to be nineteen to get older guys she doesn't even know to notice her! People who seem perfectly fine in real life can turn into backstabbing bullies, and it's even worse for people who have always been mean. Trust me, I have more than enough experience in this field.
If there's one thing I really hate about Facebook, it's that some people seem to think that everyone needs to know every personal detail about their lives. Please, people, use the social network to keep us up on your news and musings, not for posting your stupid statuses about how little Timmy made an "uh-oh" in his pants or the fact that you just got a deep papercut that's bleeding everywhere! Ew!
Alright, I'm sure you're tired of hearing everything I hate about Facebook. Don't get me wrong, it can be fun and interesting when used in a proper way. I like keeping my friends up to speed on the things going on in my life, hooking up with old friends I haven't seen in years, looking through photo albums, following my favorite stars and authors, and maybe even playing a few games here and there. So use it as it's intended and have fun, just don't get yourself into trouble while using it (and yes, I consider boring people to death with your constant posts!).
